The request was declined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rukutai Watene, who led the delegation, was barred from a meeting space at the head office by Manuka Resources co-founder Haydn Lynch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here to issue a trespass notice to Trans Tasman Resources, Manuka Resources. Photo by Greenpeace Aotearoa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trespass notice was issued by Ng\u0101ti Ruanui and presented in person by representatives of the Ng\u0101ti Ruanui hap\u016b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenpeace Aotearoa spokesperson Juressa Lee, who was also present, criticised the mining companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a real shame that they threaten us with a trespass when Ng\u0101ti Ruanui have been trying to keep Manuka Resources and Trans Tasman Resources out of their ancestral waters in their region for more than 12 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/whakaatamaori-teaomaori-prod.web.arc-cdn.net\/resizer\/v2\/QPRACF57QJBJZH22BH7IYC7ZKA.jpg?auth=7c0c7e668ad5282ab40638f504228e19d08a7ed47c2ccde905e058470c226f01&amp;width=800&amp;height=533\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Iwi members rom Ng\u0101ti Ruanui and members from Greenpeace Aotearoa outside of Manuka Resources office. Photo by Greenpeace Aotearoa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The action taken in Sydney follows Trans-Tasman Resources\u2019 (TTR) sudden withdrawal from the fast-track application process last week. That move coincided with the Government\u2019s announcement of an $80 million in funding for critical minerals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TTR Executive Chairman Alan Eggers stated the company pulled the application after a \u201cdisappointing\u201d draft decision from the expert panel. He criticised the process as \u201cunfair\u201d and \u201ccostly\u201d, noting the company had been invoiced over $1.5 million by the EPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $80 million in funding is a ring-fenced portion of the Regional Infrastructure Fund (RIF), part of a wider government strategy to map and extract minerals essential for the green energy transition and economic self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Rachel Arnott, Kaiwhakahaere o Te R\u016bnanga o Ng\u0101ti Ruanui Trust, is questioning the timing: \u201cThere has to be a backdoor deal going on\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Te P\u0101ti M\u0101ori Co-Leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer backed those concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not accidental&#8230; that Trans-Tasman Resources withdrew the same day that the critical mineral list came out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 35 minerals on the government\u2019s critical list. Vanadium-rich iron sand is exactly what TTR intends to harvest from the South Taranaki Bight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Shane Jones has rejected claims of a \u201cbackdoor deal\u201d, arguing the fund makes projects more accessible to mining companies to boost the economy.
