There is \u201cno indication\u201d that Iranian nuclear sites have been damaged in the current U.S.-Israeli war against the Islamic regime, International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Grossi said on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grossi told the body\u2019s Board of Governors during an emergency meeting in Vienna that while efforts to contact Iranian nuclear authorities continue, his organization has received \u201cno response so far.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He went on to say that \u201cso far, no elevation of radiation levels above the usual background levels has been detected in countries bordering Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran\u2019s envoy to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting that Israel had attacked the Natanz nuclear facility on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The extraordinary meeting of the IAEA\u2019s Board of Governors, which represents 35 countries and usually meets five times annually, was called at the request of Iran and Russia\u2014one of Tehran\u2019s key allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Washington and Jerusalem on Saturday morning launched joint military action aimed at neutralizing the threats posed by Iran\u2019s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. military embarked on \u201cOperation Epic Fury\u201d after the Islamic Republic refused to commit to zero enrichment as demanded by U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has always been the policy of the United States, in particular my administration, that this terrorist regime can never have a nuclear weapon,\u201d Trump declared in an initial statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve rejected every opportunity to renounce their nuclear ambitions, and we can\u2019t take it anymore,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grossi on Monday emphasized that to achieve a \u201clong-term assurance that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons,\u201d Tehran and Washington should \u201creturn to diplomacy and negotiations.\u201d He also called on all parties \u201cto exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that several Gulf nations that have suffered Iranian missile and UAV attacks\u2014including the Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates\u2014and that \u201call use nuclear applications of some sort or the other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe situation today is very concerning,\u201d Grossi warned. \u201cWe cannot rule out a possible radiological release with serious consequences, including the necessity to evacuate areas as large or larger than major cities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday, the\u00a0IAEA\u00a0said it could not verify whether Tehran had suspended uranium enrichment following strikes on its nuclear facilities during June\u2019s 12-day war with Israel and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
