Daycares in Wales have been directed to report incidents of toddlers engaging in \u201cracist\u201d behaviors. The guidance was first issued in 2024 and has since been circulated by\u00a0the National Day Nurseries Association,\u00a0according to GB News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Telegraph reports that taxpayer-funded provisions for nursery employees aim to cultivate \u201canti-racist\u201d environments. Workers are encouraged to call authorities if a \u201cracist incident\u201d occurs that could be considered a hate crime. If the incident is not a hate crime, then they may offer \u201cage-appropriate learning support opportunities for the perpetrator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the guidance, staff are to conduct an \u201cunderstanding audit\u201d and assess how well they \u201cunderstand what white privilege is and how it can affect my life and the lives of others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Workers are further directed to \u201cmake sure your anti-racist stance is visible.\u201d It also says: \u201cToileting practices vary across cultures. These practices may be very different from your own, but it does not make them unsanitary or incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The guidance goes on to ensure that childcare workers\u00a0\u201cunderstand what unconscious biases are.\u201d It asks, \u201cHow competent and open am I about addressing reporting\/non-reporting of racism amongst children\/adults?\u201d It states that it is \u201cnever too early\u201d to discuss skin color with children and encourages them to learn about the \u201cbeauty\/complexity of melanin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some judgments may be biased, the guidance says. \u201cBehaviour may be judged through a Eurocentric or personal lens,\u201d it reads. \u201cMisinterpretation of cultural norms that differ from our own can lead to unfair or incorrect observations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
