Pastor Tour\u00e9 Roberts is opening up like never before about his relationship with his wife, Sarah Jakes Roberts and the influence of T.D. Jakes and the enormous responsibility of helping lead The Potter\u2019s House into its next chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a deeply personal interview on \u201cThe Deep End\u201d with Lecrae, Roberts shared how his relationship with Sarah began\u2014and how Bishop Jakes carefully examined the man who would eventually marry his daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe both had decided that if God wasn\u2019t doing it, we weren\u2019t going to do it,\u201d Roberts said, recalling how both he and Sarah had stepped away from dating after painful divorces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat stood out to me was her articulation of God,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, Sarah was not yet the globally recognized voice she would later become. Roberts explained she was primarily known as a blogger and author before her ministry platform exploded internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the relationship grew serious, Roberts knew he needed to sit down with T.D. Jakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first meeting came during one of Jakes\u2019 book signings in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe said,\u00a0\u2018You know you got my daughter\u2019s heart\u00a0in your hands, right?\u2019\u201d Roberts recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was a later private conversation at Jakes\u2019 home that left the deepest impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After listening carefully as Roberts explained his background, intentions and relationship with Sarah, Bishop Jakes asked a question that Roberts says changed everything:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know what\u2019s right with you, but tell me what\u2019s wrong with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roberts described the moment as evidence of Jakes\u2019 incredible discernment and wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was listening to my words, but what he was really listening to more so was my heart,\u201d Roberts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, years later, Roberts and Sarah are carrying the mantle at The Potter\u2019s House following Bishop Jakes\u2019 succession announcement.\u00a0He revealed the transition process\u00a0had quietly been developing long before the public knew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe biggest weight that I felt was the weight of responsibility,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cThis cannot go down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, Roberts made clear that succession is not about becoming another T.D. Jakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was very important from the Spirit of the Lord to not try to become Bishop Jakes,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before accepting the assignment, Roberts said he and Sarah made several non-negotiable commitments to one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going to lose ourselves. We\u2019re not going to lose our marriage. And we\u2019re not going to lose our family.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
