At an international conference in Jerusalem, Israel’s president said the world is \u201cfailing to meet our vow\u201d of \u201cNever Again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by warning that antisemitism is once again spreading worldwide, and equated the denial of Jewish self-determination with hatred of Jews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the Second International Conference on Combating Antisemitism in Jerusalem, Herzog said, \u201cTo deny the Jewish people\u2014and only the Jewish people\u2014the right to self-determination in their national home is antisemitism, even if you are the mayor of the city with the most Jews outside of Israel,\u201d the latter being a reference to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Herzog linked his remarks to the return on Monday of the body of Israel Border Police Master Sgt. Ran Gvili<\/a> from Gaza, calling it \u201ca significant turning point.\u201d He said, \u201cFor the first time since 2014, not a single Israeli citizen, living or dead, is being held as a human bargaining chip in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reflecting on the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Herzog said the world is \u201cfailing to meet our vow\u201d of \u201cNever Again\u201d as Jewish communities face rising hostility in cities around the world, from London to Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The conference was hosted by the Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Ministry, led by Minister Amichai Chikli, and attended by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and other international figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
