{"id":9472,"date":"2026-01-30T17:29:47","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T04:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cvnznews.com\/?p=9472"},"modified":"2026-01-30T17:29:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T04:29:48","slug":"twin-protests-set-to-cause-traffic-woes-for-auckland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cvnznews.com\/?p=9472","title":{"rendered":"Twin protests set to cause traffic woes for Auckland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Story by RNZ:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say commuters should expect delays in Auckland&#8217;s central city on Saturday with two protests planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisers of Toit\u016b te Aroha are calling for unity in response to what they say is rising harassment and intimidation of migrants, faith groups and rainbow communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes the same day as the Destiny Church-affiliated Freedom and Rights Coalition planned to rally in Victoria Park, after having their bid to\u00a0march across the Harbour Bridge denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toit\u016b te Aroha spokesperson Bianca Ranson said the aim was to stand in solidarity with diverse communities across Aotearoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspector Jacqui Whittaker said they were expecting large numbers of people to take part in a Palestine solidarity rally at Te Komititanga Square at about midday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group, led by Toit\u016b Te Aroha, also planned to march down Queen Street to Myers Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We expect numbers to grow around Te Komititanga Square from mid-morning, with those taking part expecting to disperse from Myers Park in the afternoon,&#8221; Whittaker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Police will be monitoring the h\u012bkoi as it progresses up Queen Street, and our focus is on ensuring this is completed safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our focus is on ensuring those taking part can exercise their right to peaceful protest, while balancing minimising disruptions as much as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said police were also aware of another unrelated protest near the Harbour Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detours would be in place for all bus services that travel to or through the city centre for several hours from 11am on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transport and safety<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a media statement, Auckland Transport (AT) and New Zealand Transport Agency said motorists were advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and check Google Maps for road closures and recommended detours on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commuters\u00a0should expect significant delays\u00a0to Auckland&#8217;s city centre, bus services, and the wider Auckland Transport network and detours will be in place for all bus services travelling to or through the city centre from approximately 11am, which could last several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers using buses, trains, or ferries should allow extra time accessing Waitemat\u0101 Station (Britomart) and the Downtown Ferry Terminal<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Story by RNZ: Police say commuters should expect delays in Auckland&#8217;s central city on Saturday with two protests planned.
