As Christians ponder whether America is experiencing revival, apologist Frank Turek is digging a bit deeper, noting it\u2019s essential people don\u2019t just get \u201cspiritual renewal but [that] they become disciples.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also addressed some of the confusion and date-setting that sometimes arises in theological discussions about the end times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow do you make disciples? How do you make people that actually follow Jesus \u2014 not just people that say, \u2018I got fire insurance, I\u2019m going to heaven?’\u201d he said. \u201cJesus didn\u2019t say, \u2018Come make believers.\u2019 He said, \u2018Come make disciples.\u2019 And that means carrying your cross, and doing things that you might not normally want to do. It means denying yourself and following Him, and that\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With so much spiritual activity underway, Turek was asked whether it\u2019s possible for both chaos and renewal to occur in America at the same time. This conversation gets especially interesting when it comes to speculation about the end times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would venture to say that no one knows when Jesus is coming back, and my source on that is Jesus,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen people keep saying, \u2018Oh, yeah, I know He\u2019s coming back. Oh, things are getting worse. It\u2019s going to happen\u2019 \u2026 I say, \u2018Hold, hold, hold on. Jesus said no one knows the day, the hour, the times, nor the season. I\u2019m coming like a thief in the night.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turek\u2019s point is that no one knows when Jesus will return, and he believes that end-times specifics are \u201cveiled for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just like Jesus\u2019 first coming, Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2 that if these things were known, that the forces of this world never would have crucified the Lord of glory,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you look back on Old Testament prophecy in the light of the New Testament, you go, \u2018Oh, now I see how all these passages fit together. But looking forward, if you\u2019re in the Old Testament, you don\u2019t really know this is going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He continued, \u201cAnd if Satan knew that murdering Jesus was actually Satan\u2019s defeat, he never would have instigated it. And so the Lord kept that message coming veiled for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turek said not knowing the day and hour also prevents people from assuming they have time, living however they choose, and then simply planning to \u201crepent at the last minute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The apologist encouraged people to spend more time ensuring others learn about Jesus. While it\u2019s unclear when Christ will return, it\u2019s a guarantee that most people alive today will die within the next 100 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou know your life\u2019s going to end here on earth,\u201d Turek said. \u201cYou better deal with that \u2026 instead of worrying about when He\u2019s going to come to end the whole show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also spoke about the importance of not just telling people to believe but showing them why Christianity is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI mean, why should you be a Christian and not an atheist, or a Muslim, or Hindu, or a Buddhist, or make up your own world religion or your own personal religion like so many people do today?\u201d Turek said. \u201cThe reason you ought to be a Christian is because it\u2019s true, because there\u2019s evidence that God exists, that Jesus rose from the dead, that the Bible is telling the truth, that you\u2019re a fallen human being.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
