Update

Friday October 2 17:00

Police say the three people who were found dead in a South Auckland home were related.

Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Shanan Gray said police were supporting the family while investigators worked to establish what happened.

“I also want to pass on our condolences to the family at the centre of this incident. I know the family at this time will be reeling at the loss of three family members. Police are working with the family to ensure that they have the necessary support wrapped around them,” Gray said in a video posted to Facebook.

“I also want to acknowledge emergency services that responded to the incident, as well as the investigation team that is currently working through all of the circumstances to provide answers to the questions that a number of our community will be asking.”

Counties Manukau CIB Detective Inspector Karen Bright said police were called to a Papatoetoe house around 6.40pm after reports that a person was found dead at the property.

Original Story

Police have launched an investigation following the deaths of three people at a residential property in Papatoetoe.

Counties Manukau CIB Detective Inspector Karen Bright said police were called to a Cambridge Terrace address at about 6.40pm on Thursday after reports that a person had been found deceased. Upon arrival, officers located that individual along with two other deceased people inside the home. Police say they are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident and do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

A scene examination is continuing as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Detective Inspector Bright said police are waiting for the completion of forensic examinations to help determine what occurred.

The property remains cordoned off, with forensic specialists and investigators carrying out inquiries at the scene. Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

Police are providing support to the families affected and to members of the local community. No names, causes of death, or further details about the deceased have been released at this stage.
