The Coalition is hanging on like a possum on a powerline, Labour’s numbers have fallen through a drain grate, and TOP has kicked down the 5% door yelling “SURPRISE!”

New Zealand heads into the weekend with no weather emergencies, no cyclone warnings, and not even a rogue hailstorm — so naturally the political system has decided to provide the drama instead.

Labour has face‑planted to 27.8%, their worst showing since 2024, prompting Chris Hipkins to declare The Curia Market Research and commissioned by the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union., a“rogue poll” — the political equivalent of “the dog ate my homework.” Meanwhile, TOP has blasted past the 5% threshold like a kid who finally figured out how the trampoline works.

National nudges upward, ACT quietly fist‑pumps, New Zealand First sulks, and Te Pāti Māori drops so sharply they’re now polling level with the Women’s Rights Party — which is not a sentence anyone expected to write this year.

The governing bloc still technically forms a government… but only in the same way a Jenga tower is “technically standing.”

Luxon reclaims the preferred PM lead, Hipkins insists everything is fine, Winston Peters is somewhere muttering about the media, and Chlöe Swarbrick continues to poll like the only person in Wellington who actually reads policy documents.

This poll isn’t a storm. It’s a political slip‑n‑slide, and everyone’s on it whether they like it or not.
