Could the horrors of Oct. 7 represent more than another chapter in the long and violent history of the Middle East?
According to filmmaker and author Dinesh D’Souza, the Hamas attack on Israel may carry disturbing parallels to ancient biblical events—and point toward a much deeper spiritual battle unfolding behind the headlines.
During an interview with Prophecy Watchers, D’Souza discussed his documentary, “The Dragon’s Prophecy,” inspired by Jonathan Cahn’s bestselling book of the same name. Unlike D’Souza’s previous films examining American society and politics, this project explores Israel, Gaza, radical Islam, biblical archaeology and the prophetic significance of the Jewish people.
“The film is not only October 7th, but covers Israel, Gaza, the Palestinians, radical Islam,” D’Souza said, adding that it reaches back to the ancient conflicts between Israel and the Philistines.
At the heart of the film is an insight D’Souza said he discovered through Cahn’s book: The events surrounding Oct. 7 appear to echo the biblical account of Samson.
In Judges, Samson—the embodiment of Israel’s strength—was captured by the Philistines, taken to Gaza, blinded, stripped and publicly paraded. D’Souza noted that Hamas attackers similarly disabled Israeli surveillance systems before crossing the border and later displayed captives before celebrating crowds.
The parallels, he said, are “multiple” and “deep.”
For D’Souza, this is not merely an academic comparison. It raises the possibility that modern events are replaying an ancient biblical pattern.
“As it was in ancient times, we’re beginning to see some of those same things happen again,” he said.
The documentary also incorporates firsthand footage recorded by Hamas attackers. D’Souza said the opening sequence places viewers on the ground during the assault, using videos filmed or livestreamed by the perpetrators themselves.
He also interviewed a survivor from Kibbutz Nahal Oz who described fleeing into a safe room with her husband and children. D’Souza later discovered that he possessed footage corresponding to the attack she had described, allowing the film to connect her testimony with the events unfolding outside her home.
Yet the documentary moves beyond the physical terror of Oct. 7 and considers what D’Souza describes as the “world behind the world.”
Drawing from Revelation, he said the film’s title refers to the dragon who wages war against the woman associated with Israel and the Messiah. From that perspective, antisemitism is not simply a product of politics, prejudice or envy. It reflects a spiritual hatred directed against the people and purposes of God.
The film also presents archaeological evidence linked to biblical figures and events, including discoveries associated with the House of David, Caiaphas, Pontius Pilate and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
D’Souza said the goal is to show skeptics that the Bible is not detached from history but grounded in real people, real places and real events.
As global hostility toward Israel and Christians continues to intensify, believers must recognize that the conflict before their eyes may be connected to something far greater.
The battle is political. It is historical. But above all, it is spiritual—and Scripture has already revealed how the story ends.
